| | Sue Ouellette is one of the smartest, toughest and most “of service” persons I have ever met. This unsung Nurse Hero faithfully applies her professional skills and wholeheartedly embraces two of our most deserving populations: our Veterans and underprivileged urban residents of Baltimore. In the very real worlds of the emergency room of the Baltimore VA Medical Center and the inner city, she grapples with some of the most difficult health care and social issues in our culture today: substance abuse, acute and chronic psychological and psychiatric conditions, and the aftermath of men and women in service to our country. Sue’s so tough, smart and such an effective communicator that she’s a "PRN" clinician for the Baltimore Ravens.
Her impressive educational credentials include Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, Certified Psychiatric Clinical Specialist/Psychotherapist, and Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned her post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner degrees at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. A committed career health care educator, as well, Sue developed and implemented programs for the Association of Diabetes Educators. She was a clinical instructor for the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Community/Behavioral Health and Psychiatric Nursing practicums.
Sue is a recognized expert on the medical and psychological implications of “stress”. She is invited regularly to speak, teach and consult for organizations, groups, and corporations around the U.S. and Canada. At the heart of her message about the pervasive and pernicious impact of stress on health and quality of life are developing and motivating self-management behaviors. Sue makes sure everyone has a great time while learning, which makes her a highly effective communicator. True to her personal and professional theme of tackling tough challenges, Sue's special interests as a health care educator include patients and caregivers dealing with chronic or progressive disease such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, constituencies for which she develops and presents workshops.
